Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar, renowned as the 'Queen of Melodies' and 'Voice of the Millennium,' passed away on February 6, 2022, creating an immense void in the Indian music landscape. Lata Mangeshkar, a Bharat Ratna awardee, held a prominent position in the country, with her influence extending beyond music. Notably, she played a pivotal role in halting the construction of a major flyover project in Mumbai over two decades ago.
The proposed 4.1 km flyover, connecting Peddar Road to Haji Ali junction, passed near Lata Mangeshkar's residence, Prabhu Kunj, in south Mumbai. Expressing concerns about the potential disturbance to her riyaaz (musical practice) due to the noise from the flyover, Lata, along with her sister Asha Bhosle, joined local residents in opposing the project. Lata Mangeshkar took her objections a step further by meeting with the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Vilasrao Deshmukh, and even threatened to relocate to Pune or Kolhapur if the flyover was constructed in front of her residence.
